Credit Transfer Policy

General Overview:
The purpose of this policy is to outline the guidelines for the transfer of credit units for undergraduate and graduate students seeking to transfer from other recognized universities or equivalent institutes of higher learning to Eelo University (EU). In general, EU accepts credits earned at institutions fully accredited by the Somaliland National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) or the respective body/ministry responsible for higher education in foreign countries, provided such credits are applicable to the student’s degree program. This policy specifies the requirements and procedures for applying and evaluating credit transfer requests.

Requirements:

  1. Admission Eligibility:
Students must meet the admission requirements of the academic program for which they are applying.
  2. Accredited Institution:
The higher institution from which credits are being transferred must be accredited by the NCHE for Somaliland universities or recognized by the respective body or ministry responsible for higher education for foreign institutions.
  3. Minimum Academic Standing:
EU will only consider credit transfers for students with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0 or above from Somaliland higher education institutions, or an equivalent CGPA for foreign institutions.
  4. Course-by-Course Evaluation:
Each course will be individually evaluated for credit transfer. Only courses with a minimum grade of “C” or 60% will be considered. Block transfers based on grade averages will not be accepted.
  5. Credit Transfer Limit:
The maximum number of credits eligible for transfer must not exceed 60% of the minimum graduation requirement of the academic program applied for.
  6. Higher National Diplomas (HND):
Applicants holding recognized Higher National Diplomas (HND) may be admitted to the second year of study, provided they take additional first-year courses deemed mandatory by the School Academic Board.

Procedure:

  1. Submission of Request:
Interested students must complete and submit the “Request for Credit Transfer Evaluation” form to initiate the process.
  2. Supporting Documents:
Applicants must attach a partial transcript from the institution attended, showing their academic status, courses completed, credit units earned, and grades obtained. Additionally, the curriculum for the program from which credits are being transferred must be included.
  3. Credit Transfer Evaluation:
Upon receiving the completed form and documents, the EU Admissions Office will initiate the credit transfer evaluation process. Students may be contacted for any additional information.
  4. Pre-entry Exam:
Applicants will be required to take a pre-entry exam covering key knowledge areas of the applied program and level. A score of 60% or above is required for admission.
  5. Evaluation Duration:
The credit transfer evaluation process typically takes four (4) weeks. Students aiming to enroll in a specific intake should factor in this timeframe to avoid delays in their enrollment.
  6. Notification of Results:
Once the evaluation process is complete, students will be informed of the results via their provided contact information.
  7. University Discretion:
Eelo University reserves the right to accept, reject, or make recommendations regarding any credit transfer request.

Cost:

An administrative fee will be charged for the credit transfer evaluation process. The fee will vary based on the number of courses evaluated and may change over time, depending on institutional circumstances.
